Amazon River and Basin

It is difficult to talk about the Amazon river without making a reference to the Amazon Basin. The amazon basin is the most extensive river system in the world, with a total area of 7 millions km2. The river finds its source in the Peruvian Andes and end up its journey in the Atlantic Ocean in Brazil. The Amazon basin water table is the largest in the world. The amazon hydro-system forms a local ecosystem where water evaporation condenses and produces rain in its vicinity.

Araguaia-Tocantins Basin

This basin is the second largest of Brazil and covers an area of 1 million km2, representing 11% of Brazil.

The Rio de la Plata

The Río de la Plata (or River Plate or Plata River) is the river and estuary formed by the confluence of the Uruguay River and the Paraná River. Part of the river covers a large area in the south west of Brazil.

The Sao Francisco river

The Sao Francisco River is located only in Brazil and does not pass the frontier. It covers part of Minais Gerais and Bahia. It is used for hydro-electricity and irrigation;
